Meredith Kapner is a board-certified OBGYN for OB-GYN Associates of Advantia and is currently practicing at the Beltsville and Silver Spring locations outside of Washington D.C. A proud lifetime resident of the DMV area, Meredith has been providing healthcare to the local community since she was just 16 years old, working on Labor and Delivery at Holy Cross Hospital.

Today, she focuses on creating healing and meaningful relationships with her gynecology and obstetrics patients. Through a dedication to mind-body medicine and the incorporation of complementary therapies into her practice when appropriate, she is able to offer the least invasive options possible.

What led you to become an OBGYN?

Ever since childhood, I’ve wanted to be an OBGYN and felt it was my calling to care for birthing people. In my opinion, there is no higher privilege than to offer care during these extremely joyful, and at times challenging, moments of families’ lives. I think I can credit these feelings and motivators, in part, to the strong and inspiring women I was raised by, who have given me the strength and drive to help care for others.

What women’s care do you specialize in?

I have experience in all areas of women’s care, but my skills in surgery have been specifically recognized. I have also practiced many innovative, minimally invasive techniques, and have experience in treating patients with sexual dysfunction and vulvar disorders. For my birthing patients, I can offer complementary and alternative therapies, as well as assist in natural childbirth.

What is your care philosophy when working with patients?

My care philosophy is to provide holistic, nonjudgmental, and patient-centered care. With all my appointments, I see what the patient is looking to get out of their visit and start there. One of the most rewarding things that we do is provide this space, this safety, to talk about things that are otherwise not talked about. This is just what I was supposed to do, and I absolutely love it.

If I wasn’t a doctor, I’d be…?

A chef! Cooking has always been a creative outlet for me, and the way I can express love to my family and friends. Even though I can’t imagine doing anything besides caring for birthing people, I love working with my hands and creating vibrant, healthy, and delicious food. I feel very blessed to love what I do and to truly look forward to coming to work every single day.
