Heather Crawford is a Certified Nurse-Midwife for Heartland Women’s Healthcare of Advantia who is currently practicing at the Wentzville location outside of St. Louis, Missouri. She brings 17 years of experience in healthcare to her new role, specializing in low-intervention labor and birth, including water immersion.
Heather has a deep commitment to empowering women throughout all stages of their lives, providing personalized, respectful, and evidence-based care. She works to create a supportive environment for her patients, where they can feel heard and valued, no matter the care they are receiving.
What led you to become a Certified Nurse-Midwife?
I became a Certified Nurse Midwife because I have a passion for women’s health. When I was in high school, I had the opportunity to shadow a neighbor who worked as a labor and delivery nurse, and that experience was pretty awesome to me. Midwifery care is about empowering women; it’s about showing them respect, making sure that they feel heard and understood, and just cared for. Whether it’s during pregnancy, labor and birth, or routine gynecological care, it all matters.
What women’s care do you specialize in?
As a midwife, I really specialize in everything, but I have a passion for helping women in labor. Whether you desire an unmedicated birth or a birth with an epidural, I love doing all of it.
If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
If I could eat one food for the rest of my life, I would choose tacos. There’s just such a variety of what you can do with them. You can eat ’em for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and even dessert! A Choco Taco is pretty good.
Who has been the biggest influence on your life?
The biggest influence on my life has definitely been my Nana. She’s one of my favorite people. She’s also a retired Registered Nurse, and growing up listening to her stories about how she impacted patients’ lives really spurred me on to follow in her footsteps as a nurse.
