Telehealth, which is also known as telemedicine or telehealth services, allows you to conduct a video-based appointment with your health care provider using a computer, smartphone or other communications technologies instead of visiting the provider in-person in their office. Remote patient monitoring, another form of telehealth, enables patients to transmit data such as blood glucose or blood pressure readings to their providers.
Providers at many of Advantia Health’s practices offer telehealth appointments, including those for mental health services, non-urgent gynecological issues, lab and test results, menopausal symptoms, contraception consultations and prescription refills. Telemedicine is a great alternative for visits that do not require a physical exam.
Telehealth may not be appropriate for every type of visit or condition, so it is important to work with your provider to determine the best course of treatment for you.
Advantia Health clinicians include licensed clinical social workers, who specialize in helping people work through depression, relationship difficulties, anxiety, grief, trauma, addictive behaviors and adjustments to life transitions through different therapeutic approaches. These experienced providers offer in-person and telemedicine appointment options.
Telehealth consultation appointments may save you time, allow you to be seen by your provider sooner or provide you with access to providers (including specialists) who are located farther away from you. This convenient appointment format also reduces the risk of exposure to communicable diseases, which is especially important for persons with compromised immunity, including pregnant women or the elderly.
By eliminating the need to travel to your doctor’s office, you also save money on gas, parking or mass transportation.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, many private insurers and public health plans have expanded coverage to include telehealth visits. Typically, those visits are treated the same as an in-person visit for insurance billing purposes. That means you are likely to incur a co-pay similar to an in-office visit. For individual coverage questions, you should always contact your insurance provider.
Telehealth is an effective format for consultations about birth control and other medications and refill requests. Qualified providers can prescribe new medications, adjust prescriptions and follow up on related issues and concerns via telehealth appointments.
Advantia uses secure and HIPAA-compliant video platforms for telehealth to protect your health information and privacy.
You do not need to download an app or log on to your Patient Portal account to participate in an athenaTelehealth visit. In fact, you do not even need to have a Portal Account, although it is encouraged. Simply schedule a telehealth appointment and follow the steps in the confirmation and reminder messages you receive. When you join the online visit, they will see the name of the practice at the top of the page.
Perform a pre-appointment device check.
If you choose to access the appointment through the Patient portal, you can view upcoming athenaTelehealth appointments on the Patient Portal in both desktop and mobile. You can cilck the Join Telehealth Call button to start your visit.
Please call your health care provider’s office to schedule a telemedicine appointment to determine if your medical concern can be handled remotely. Some practices may limit telemedicine to existing patients.
