Melissa J. Fleming, MSN, CNM, IBCLC

Melissa Fleming is a Certified Nurse Midwife with more than a decade of experience providing full-scope midwifery care. She offers prenatal, birth, postpartum, and gynecologic services and is committed to delivering care that is both clinically sound and deeply respectful of each patient’s individual values and goals.

Melissa began her nursing career in medical-surgical and telemetry care, building a strong foundation in complex patient management and critical thinking. She later transitioned to labor and delivery as a registered nurse before becoming a midwife. Her experience spans both hospital-based and out-of-hospital birth settings, giving her a balanced perspective in supporting families through a range of birth experiences.

She is known for her calm presence during labor and her ability to foster clear communication and shared decision-making. Melissa believes women’s health care across all stages of life should be evidence-based, compassionate, and tailored to each person’s needs so that patients feel informed, respected, and confident in their care.

Her clinical practice includes comprehensive contraception counseling and management, including long-acting reversible contraception, physiologic birth support, breastfeeding support, newborn circumcision, and patient-centered maternity care.

In addition to her clinical work, Melissa has provided mentorship and educational support for midwives and nurses internationally, including work in The Gambia. She serves as a clinical instructor and precepts midwifery, nursing, and medical students.

Melissa is slated to complete her Doctor of Nursing Practice in Spring 2026. She lives in Maryland with her husband and children. She is a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, staying active, spending time with family, and practicing crochet and other needle arts as an artistic outlet.
