What is your care philosophy?

Working in women’s health I am aware that there are many changes a woman experiences during the lifetime including adolescence, pregnancy, postpartum, menopause and beyond. These times can be very trying and emotional, and I think a
solid provider-patient relationship is key to providing the best possible care to my patients. I strive to treat each one of my patients with compassion, concern and understanding. Given the complexity of women’s health, I see the importance of
providing thorough education to each of my patients which will in turn help women and their families be an active part of the decision making process.

What inspired you to pursue a career in obstetrics and gynecology?

I always knew I wanted to do something within the medical field. I went to nursing school at George Mason University, and during my clinical I fell in love with labor and delivery. After I graduated nursing school I took a job as a labor and delivery nurse at Holy Cross which is where I spent the next 5 years of my career. The process of pregnancy and delivery is incredible, and I loved being a part of this with women and their families. My L&D job is ultimately what pushed me to pursue a career as a
women’s health nurse practitioner, and I obtained my masters in women’s health from Drexel University. I love being an advocate for women and their changing needs throughout their lives, and I couldn’t see myself doing anything else.

Are you from the DC area?

Yes! I was born in Howard county, but moved around quite a bit growing up. My dad was a professional soccer coach, which took my family all over the United States. Besides Maryland I lived in Florida, Texas and Utah, which were all very unique and
different, but enjoyable. I moved back for college, and I’m so happy to be back in the area!

What is your best advice for staying healthy?

I really think it’s all about balance and a combination of staying active and fueling your body with healthy, nutritious foods. That being said, I’m a firm believer in “everything in moderation” otherwise staying healthy can become difficult and draining. I like to switch up my workout routines which helps me to stay motivated. Over the past couple of years I have picked up running and have completed several 10ks and 10 milers with a half marathon as my running goal! I also I really enjoy yoga, weight lifting, and interval training. I think it’s important to find an activity that suits each individual’s personal interests.

If I wasn’t a Nurse Practitioner, I’d be…?

I always knew I wanted to do something in the medical field, and for a time I thought I wanted to work in sports medicine. Growing up I spent a lot of time on the soccer field and I thought this would be an interesting and exciting career! On the other end of the spectrum I always thought it would be fun to be an event/wedding planner. I enjoy organizing and planning parties/events so this would be perfect for me!
