Dr. Giammittorio is the founder and CEO of the Physicians and Midwife Collaborative Practice. He is a graduate of the University of Richmond and the Medical College of Virginia. He interned at M.C.V. and served his residency at Providence Hospital, Washington D.C. He is Board certified by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

He is the past Chairman of Caesarean Section Committee Department of OBGYN, INOVA Alexandria Hospital, and a past member of Quality Assessment committee INOVA Alexandria Hospital. He also serves as a current member of Central Credentialing Advisory Committee for CareFirst. He was named one of the region’s “top doctors” in the obstetrics/gynecology category by Washingtonian magazine in 2008. Dr. Giammittorio was appointed to the Virginia Board of Medicine by Governor Bob McDonnell in October 2014 and was reappointed by Governor Terry Mcauliffe to a  4-year term in September 2016. In 2015, Dr. Giammittorio agreed to serve on the Admissions Committee at his alma mater, The Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, in Richmond Virginia.

Dr. Giammittorio is passionate about advancing the P&M mission of delivering, “ Convenient Compassionate Care.” He is responsible for the overall practice direction and governance of our 25 providers and 50 support staff. All this keeps Dr. G on the move, but he reserves every Monday to see patients in the Kenmore office.. Yes he has practiced medicine for 38 years and counting but is he going to retire any time soon? Nope—too busy!

Outside of the practice, Dr. G. is a member of the third generation of a large Italian-American family many of which live and work in the area. He married Roberta Friedman in 1982. Roberta teaches music to toddlers with her “Miss Roberta’s Music Together” program. They have three children who are graduates of James Madison University, The University of Virginia and Virginia Tech and are pursuing their own careers.
